ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Basketball team fell to the University of Findlay 89-59 Saturday afternoon at the McDonnell Center to wrap up 2017.
The Senators started strong with the G-MAC leaders taking an early lead with back-to-back three pointers from
Sydney Turner. D&E stayed with Findlay through the first 10 minutes, ending the quarter trailing by just three points, 23-20.
However, Findlay used a big run early in the second quarter to pull away and the Oilers never trailed again, taking a 47-35 lead into the break.
Coming out of the halftime break, the Senators struggled shooting from the field, going just 31 percent from the field in the third quarter, while the visitors shot 56 percent to pull away 70-47.
Aliyah Dukes was the only Senator in double figures, scoring 23 points, the second highest among all scorers in the game. Dukes also had a team high four assists.
Jamiyah Johnson led the Senators with seven rebounds, while Turner and
Alicia Roth had six rebounds each.
Jay Kilpatrick was second in scoring for D&E with eight points.
Casey Johnson led the Senators with three blocks.
The Senators will return to action when they ring in the New Year with a G-MAC battle against Ursuline College. Tip off is set for 12 p.m. at the McDonnel Center on Monday, January 1.
