CANTON, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins Women's Basketball Team picked up its first conference win Saturday afternoon with a 74-71 victory over the reigning G-MAC Champions Malone.
The Senators started the game hot by making four 3-pointers, and took a 24-22 lead into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, D&E continued the hot shooting and also played great defense, holding the Pioneers to only 11 points in the quarter. The Senators had six-point lead in the half, leading Malone 39-33.
The Senators shot 57 percent from the field in the first half, including 5-of-12 from behind the arc.
In the third quarter, the Senators continued its hot shooting while holding off a fierce rally from the Pioneers. D&E led 53-50 at the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, D&E and Malone traded leads until Colleen Burdock and
Aliyah Dukes made both of their free throws to preserve the lead, and ensure a Senator victory over Malone.
As a team, D&E shot 55 percent in the game and 39 percent from long range.
Defensively, the Senators held the Pioneers to 43 percent shooting and forced 14 turnovers.
Kali Wilburn had a season high of 20 points and grabbed a team high eight rebounds in 33 minutes of action.
Dukes had double-digit points for the second straight game, scoring 23 points. Dukes also dished out two assists, and made two steals in 37 minutes of game action.
Nicole Armstrong had 15 points and grabbed four boards in 36 minutes of action.
The Senators will return to action to take on Ursuline on December 6. The game is set for a 5:30 p.m. start.
