Senators Fall At the Wire to Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Basketball team dropped a heartbreaker Tuesday afternoon, falling to Hillsdale College 74-72 on the road in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.

In a game that went back-and-forth and was never separated by more than seven points, the Senators battled the hosts all the way down to the very end.

After D&E had a 2-point lead following the first quarter, the teams went into the halftime break tied at 30. Hillsdale then had a 3-point lead following the third quarter. However, D&E and Hillsdale would trade the lead multiple times in the fourth quarter, including in the final minutes.

The Senators took a 72-71 lead with 72 seconds remaining, but Hillsdale answered back, making a layup with 39 seconds left to retake the lead and D&E was unable to connect on their last three shooting attempts, including a shot at the buzzer.

Aliyah Dukes was one of the dominant players on the floor, leading all scorers with 24 points. Dukes had eight field goals in the game, including five shots from behind the arc. She also collected five rebounds and had two steals and two assists.

Colleena Burdock was one of four Senators in double figures, finishing with 14 points. Burdock also had two steals and two assists.

Sydney Turner had 11 points for D&E. Like Dukes, she also collected five rebounds and had two steals and two assists.

Kali Wilburn led the Senators with six rebounds and joined her teammates in double figures with 11 points.

The Senators will head into their winter break, returning to action on December 30 against Findlay. D&E will host the Oilers at 12 p.m. in the McDonnell Center. The game will also be the Senators Canned Food Drive game, with all donations of a non-perishable food item earning free admission to the game.
