ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Basketball team fell to Lake Erie College on Saturday, dropping the Great Midwest Athletic Conference battle 87-65.
The Senators struggled early, falling behind 7-0, but responded well coming out of a timeout and closed the 1
st quarter on a 19-8 run.
However, the visitors would have another strong start in the second quarter, with a 9-2 run to start the quarter and never looked back, carrying a 7-point lead into the break.
In the second half, Lake Erie continued to pull away, opening up as much as a 23-point lead.
The Senators struggled with turnovers, giving up the ball 23 times, which Lake Erie capitalized into 33 points.
Sydney Turner and
Aliyah Dukes led the way for the Senators offensively, with both players going 5-of-9 from the field with two free throws each. Turner's baskets were all from behind the arc as she finished with 17 points, while Dukes hit four three pointers for 16 points.
Turner also led the Senators with five rebounds.
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Tuesday with a trip up to Michigan, facing Hillsdale College at 3 p.m. in the final contest before the holiday break.
