ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Women' Basketball team started off its home schedule Tuesday night with a 121-53 victory over Penn State-Beaver.
The point total scored by the Senators is the second highest in Great Midwest Athletic Conference history.
Colleena Burdock flirted with a triple double in her McDonnell Center debut to lead the Senators. The freshman led the team high 24 points, 10 assists and eight steals. She also had six rebounds in the game.
Sydney Snyder also had a big home debut as she joined her fellow freshman in double digits with 18 points. Snyder also collected four rebounds and three assists.
The Senators jumped out to a 22-8 lead in the first few minutes of the game and D&E never looked back. After a short run from the Lady Lions, the Senators closed the first quarter on an 11-1 run to take a 33-14 lead into quarter two.
D&E started the second quarter on a 12-0 run and expanded the lead to 71-25 at the break.
The Senators shot 58 percent from the field in the first half, inlcuding 13-for-25 from behind the arc. The Senators also forced 15 turnovers in the first half to help open up the sizeable lead.
After a slow third quarter, D&E finished off the game by outscoring Penn State-Beaver 36-18 in the final 10 minutes.
As a team, D&E shot 51 percent in the game and 47 percent from 3-point range, with 20 total threes.
Defensively, D&E held the visitors to 29 percent shooting and forced the Lady Lions into 29 turnovers.
Jay Kilpatrick (17),
Kali Wilburn (15), and
Daniela Bohorquez (10) also finished in double figures for the Senators in the contest.
Nicole Armstrong led the Senators with eight rebounds in the contest.
The Senators will return to the road for three consecutive games, starting with a trip to Walsh in North Canton, Ohio to open up G-MAC play on November 30. That game is st for a 7:30 p.m. start.
