CHARLESTON, W.Va. –
Everton Carvalho made two save and
Alex Samarzich and
Rafa Moreno scored in the penalty kick shootout to push the Davis & Elkins College Men's Soccer team passed Saginaw Valley and on to the second round of the NCAA Championship Tournament.
The Senators and Saginaw Valley finished double overtime tied at 1-1 following a first half goal from the Senators and an equalizer by Saginaw in the second half.
Friedrich Peter gave Davis & Elkins the lead in the 21
st minute, heading in a corner kick from
Pablo Salvador Lopez to put the No. 4 seeded Senators ahead.
Hedi Mehnaoui would make two first half saves to keep Davis & Elkins ahead going into halftime.
Saginaw Valley picked up its pressure in the second half, firing four shots on target to force three saves from Mehnaoui. However, the No. 5 seeded Cardinals found the equalizer from Chris Jacovou's goal in the 54
th minute.
In the overtime periods, Mehnaoui was forced into three more saves to preserve a 1-1 game that would need to be decided on penalties. Mehnaoui finished the game with eight saves.

Following
Tim Staerz penalty kick which was saved by Connor Keane, Carvalho stepped up and stopped Michael Shaikly's effort.
Samarzich then stepped up and gave D&E a 1-0 lead in the shootout with his goal.
Carvalho then pulled heroics again, stopping Connor Rutz's effort to maintain a 1-0 lead after two rounds.
Salvador Lopez was then stopped by Keane who also stopped
Fredrik Hedemark's penalty in the fourth round of the shootout.
Saginaw Valley also missed their third and fourth shots, hitting one off the post and pushing one wide, allowing Moreno to step up and bury the clinching goal.
With the win, D&E advances to face No. 1 seeded Ohio Valley on Sunday in the second round of the tournament. The game is set for a 1 p.m. start at Schoenbaum Stadium.
