CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Soccer team's season came to a close on Sunday as the Senators fell to No. 1 seeded Ohio Valley on penalty kicks after earning a 1-1 draw against the G-MAC foe and No. 6 ranked Fighting Scots in the Second Round of the NCAA National Tournament.
 
The Senators fail to advance to the third round as they fell to the Fighting Scots 3-0 on penalty kicks.
 
Davis & Elkins took an early lead in the ninth minute as Abel Ameyaw was able to twist free from a defender and beat Carlos Rubio for his fourth goal of the season.
 
The Senators nearly doubled their advantage in the 16^th minute as Rafa Moreno found space in the box for a free header, but the freshman's attempt sailed just over the crossbar.
 
Hedi Mehnaoui would then be called into action to make two saves over the remainder of the first half as Davis & Elkins carried a 1-0 lead into the break for the second straight game.
 
However, like Friday night's game against Saginaw Valley, the Senators would be pulled back in the second half as Ohio Valley tied things up in the 55^th minute as Guillermo Segovia scored on a curling shot from outside the box into the far-left corner.
 
Ohio Valley would put three more shots on target in the half, but Mehnaoui was able to stop the chances pushing the Senators to another extra time contest.
 
The Senators controlled much of the overtime periods but were unable to make their chances count. Pablo Salvador Lopez had a look from the top of the box in the first overtime but was unable to get a shot off.
 
The Fighting Scots would get just one quality chance as well as Camilo Sarmiento hit the crossbar in the final minute of the second overtime, allowing the game to go to penalties.
 
With the loss in penalties, the Senators close their season with back-to-back ties in the National Tournament. D&E is now 3-4-3 all time in the NCAA Tournament.
 
The Senators close the year with a 14-3-4 record, including an 11-1-2 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. D&E's 14 wins are tied for the third most in a season in school history, equal to the 2012 team who went 14-4-2, also in an NCAA Tournament appearance.
