ELKINS - The Senators (8-1-2, 7-0-2 G-MAC) beat Cedarville (6-7-0, 5-5-0 G-MAC) 3-2 after falling to a 2-1 deficit for parts of the game.
D&E quickly found the scoresheet in the 4
th minute when
Tim Staerz was brought down by Graham Sachtleben inside the 18-yard box and the referee immediately pointed to the penalty spot. Nicholas Rasch-Hegelund scored from the penalty spot for his second goal in two games. Rasch-Hegelund now has three goals in the season.
However, the Yellow Jackets capitalized on two turnovers from the D&E defense to score two goals within 90 seconds.
D&E was unable to find the back of the net for the remainder of the first half despite launching waves of attack on the Yellow Jackets' defense.
4 minutes after the start of the second half,
Pablo Salvador Lopez made a pass to
Friedrich Peter, who then launched a long ball to Tim Starez. Staerz then shot it past the oncoming Sachtleben for his eighth goal of the season.
After finding the equalizer, D&E dominated possession for the rest of second half but was unable to find the net until the 83
rd minute. In the 83
rd minute,
Carlos Cruza headed in a cross from a
Pablo Salvador Lopez free kick to take the lead for the Senators. This goal marked Cruza's first game winner and first collegiate goal.
The Senators had 25 shots, 10 of which was on goal.
Hedi Mehnaoui had two saves, but allowed two goals.
With tonight's win, the Senators have officially secured a spot in the G-MAC Championships.
D&E will travel to Nashville to take on conference opponent Trevecca Nazarene on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. Central Time.
