ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Soccer team fell to the University of Indianapolis Saturday afternoon, 1-5, wrapping up the opening weekend of the 2016 season.
The Senators had the first chance of the day when
Lukas Grosse-Puppendahl tested Chris Jones, forcing him into a save.
However, it would be the Greyhounds who would strike first, as James Jenkins broke through to put the visitors ahead in the 36th minute. Four minutes later, Jenkins would add a second to double Indianapolis' lead.
Indianapolis came out quick in the second half with David Kurz scoring on a long curling strike from outside the box in the 53rd minute.
In the 58th minute, Javier Steinwascher would add to the tally for the Greyhounds with a free kick bending through the wall to beat
Hedi Mehnaoui on the near side.
Late in the contest, Indianapolis would add one fore on a long overhead through ball that set up Mase Koki to chip in another goal in the 86th minute.
In the 89th minute,
Ayo Adeyina would break the shutout, taking a pass from
Wes Hendrix and then beating Jones for his first goal of the season.
The Senators will return to action next weekend with a trip to new G-MAC member Malone University. The game is set for a 3 p.m. start in Canton, Ohio.
