Senators earn win over Notre Dame, fall to Gannon

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins College Senators split the opening fay of the Notre Dame/Ursuline Invitational on Friday.
 
The Senators opened the day up with a dominating 3-0 victory over the co-host Notre Dame College. D&E won 25-18, 25-14, 25-17 in the match.
 
One of the big differences was in the serving/serve receive game, as the Senators did not allow an ace defensively while winning 13 on the offensive end.
 
The Senators also doubled up Notre Dame in the blocking column, with eight blocks in the three sets.
 
Davis & Elkins hit great in sets two and three, hitting at a .474 and .333 rate, respectively. The Senators his .300 for the match, while Notre Dame never hit over .100 and finished at .079.
 
Elizabeth Estes (14), Sasha Johnson (7) and Devin Saucy (6) led the Senators in kills in the match. Johnson also had four aces and five blocks in the match.
 
Kelly Smith also had four aces and Michaela Touchet had three aces. Touchet also led the Senators in digs.
 
Zoe Craig was second in digs with six and also had 27 assists in the opening match.
 
In game two, the Senators were unable to upend undefeated Gannon, falling in straight sets 18-25, 14-25, 20-25.
 
The Senators hit well at times, hitting .153 for the match. The Senators hit .308 in the second set, but were outmatched as Gannon hit .560 in the same set. Gannon hit .276 for the game.
 
Estes (10) again led the Senators in kills, while Anna Gallup finished with eight kills.
 
Charisse Mitchell and Estes each had two blocks in the match. Craig again led the Senators in assists (22) and Touchet finished with 16 digs.
 
The Senators will return to action on Saturday with matches against Lake Erie and Shippensburg.
