ELKINS – The Senators Men's Soccer team picked up its first win of the season in its Great Midwest Athletic Conference home opener on Thursday, defeating Ohio Valley 2-0.
 
The hosts grabbed the lead early on as Benjamin Pastur smashed home a rebound that put the Senators up just 4:30 into the game.
 
Pablo Salvador Lopez fired a shot on target that was pushed aside by Carlos Rubio. However, the rebound bounced directly to Pastur who kicked a side volley home for his third goal of the season.
 
With the early lead, the Senators found themselves defending the high powered attack of the Fighting Scots, who entered the night perfect in G-MAC play.
 
Ohio Valley led the game in shots (16-11) and shots on goal (6-5), but the Senators were able to hold tight defensively.
 
Hedi Mehnaoui had a big night in goal, stopping six shots, including several key save to earn his first clean sheet of the season.
 
Ohio Valley threw players forward late, looking to find an equalizing goal, and the Senators capitalized as Abel Ameyaw doubled the Senators lead.

Ameyaw capitalized on a defensive mistake by Rubio in goal and Ameyaw was able to find the back of the net for his first goal of the year.
 
The Senators will return to action as they host G-MAC opponent Cedarville on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
