ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Soccer team picked up its first Great Midwest Athletic Conference victory of the season in its home opener on Thursday, defeating Ohio Valley 1-0.
The Senators grabbed the victory on
Katrina Giantsopoulos's second goal of the season. The forward connected on a header from a set piece and headed it past Kim Mora for the goal.
The ball was played in by
Asheli Freed from the corner kick and headed on by
Jessica Woodbyrne to Giantsopoulos.
Davis & Elkins controlled the majority of the game, outshooting the Fighting Scots 16-8.
Lauren Hill was also solid in goal, stopping all three Ohio Valley shots that hit the target to preserve the team's first clean sheet of the season.
The Senators will return to action as they host G-MAC opponent Cedarville on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
