HICKORY, N.C. – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Basketball team fell to Lenoir-Rhyne on Monday afternoon, 79-60, to close out the calendar year for 2016.
The Senators were edged out by the Bears in the first two quarters, going into the half trailing by seven points.
Davis & Elkins would match the hosts in the third quarter, but were unable to close the gap and fell away late trying to force a way across the gap.
Stephanie Wooten led all scorers with 27 points in the game. Wooten hit 11 field goals, including three from behind the arc in the contest. Wooten also had five assists and a steal.
Kali Wilburn was the only other Senator to hit a double figure mark, as the sophomore brought down 10 rebounds in the game. Wilburn also had two steals and contributed seven points at the offensive end of the floor.
Sydney Turner also had seven points and matched it with seven rebounds in the game.
Tajee Pledger was second on the team in scoring, coming off the bench to contribute eight points and five rebounds in 23 minutes.
The Senators close out 2016 with an 8-2 record overall in non-conference play.
D&E will play at Ursuline on January 5 to open 2017 and Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. The game is set for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff in Pepper Pike, Ohio.
