NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Soccer team upset top overall seed Trevecca Nazarene on Thursday in the semifinals of the 2016 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament.
With the win, the Senators advance to the G-MAC Championship game on Saturday and will play Ursuline.
The Senators struck first with
Tina Wulin's first goal of the season, as the junior scored in the 15th minute. Wulin got on the end of
Asheli Freed's corner kick and was able to beat Liz Denton for the early lead.
The score remained the same for the majority of the first half, but the Senators were able to double their lead in the 41st minute to take a 2-0 advantage into the break.
Off of another corner kick,
Brianna Rackey was able to score her first goal of the season as well.
The Senators held the lead into the break and packed in defensively at key points to hold the Trojans scoreless in the contest.
Lauren Hill made six saves in the game for her eighth shutout of the season. Hill made four saves in the first half and two more over the final 45 minutes.
The Senators and Arrows are set to kickoff at 2 p.m. on Saturday, with the winner securing the automatic bid to the NCAA National Tournament.
