Volleyball Defeats Rival AB in 3-2 Thriller

ELKINS – The Davis & Ekins College Volleyball team came from behind to defeat rival Alderson Broaddus in a 5-set thriller Wednesday night at the McDonnell Center.

In the first of three games in four days for the Senators, D&E struggled early on against the Battlers, dropping the first set 18-25.

However, D&E came back to tie things up at 1 with a 25-18 win in set two, riding a .394 attacking percentage.

Both teams struggled in the third set, but the Senators fell late, as AB grabbed a 25-23 win to take a 2-1 lead overall in the match.

However, on Whiteout night in the McDonnell Center, the Senators wouldn't disappoint the big crowd, as the Senators dominated the fourth set, winning 25-18.

D&E would carry the momentum into the final set, attacking at a .320 rate to win 15-10 and take the match.

One of the big differences in the game was the serve and serve receive for D&E. The Senators had 12 aces, led by six from Kendall Jacobson and three from Alexa Smarra.

The Senators also out-blocked Alderson Broaddus 17-11. Sasha Johnson was a part of 11 blocks for D&E and Elizabeth Estes was a part of nine. Devin Saucy also chipped in to be a part of five blocks.

Offensively, the trio were big in the attacking game as well. Estes led with 16 kills, while Saucy and Johnson each had nine kills in the match.

Defensively, Saucy also chipped in with eight digs. Jacobson led the way with 19 digs on the night and Zoe Craig also had 12 digs. Craig also led the team with 46 assists.

The Senators will have a day off before returning to the McDonnell Center on Friday night to host Cedarville. The match is set for a 7 p.m. first serve.
