ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Basketball team picked up its third straight win to start the 2016-17 campaign by beating Washington Adventist University 101-56 in the home opener Monday night at the McDonnell Center.
Stephanie Wooten led the scoring on the night, in which all 12 Senators who played, recorded at least two points. Wooten finished with 18 points, one ahead of
Sydney Turner in scoring, who finished with 17.
Kali Wilburn (13),
Jay Kilpatrick (10) and
Tajee Pledger (10) all finished in double figures as well for D&E.
Wooten picked up her third double-double of the season as well, recording 11 assists in the game.
Turner,
Alicia Roth and
Nicole Armstrong all finished with seven rebounds to share for the team high.
Monday night's win was the first time the Senators had hit triple digits since a 103-92 win over Central State on February 8, 2014.
The Senators jumped out to a 16-0 run to start the game, fueled by 14 points from Turner, including four three pointers. D&E grew the lead to as high as 56 in the game.
D&E was 33 percent from behind the arc, but was over 60 percent inside the arc, including 44 points in the paint. The Senators also had 25 second-chance points and capitalized on the fast break for 12 points.
The Senators will return to action on Saturday with another non-conference battle, welcoming in Lewis for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
