Estes hits 1000 kills in 3-1 loss to Malone

ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Volleyball team fell in its regular season finale on Saturday to Malone 3-1 in the McDonnell Center.

Senior Elizabeth Estes reached a career milestone in the game, recording her 1000th career kill in the first set on senior day and in her final game at home.

However, the Senators would drop the set, as Malone held on late to edge a 25-23 victory and take an early advantage.

It was a much different set for the Senators in set two, as D&E hit at a .480 attacking percentage and stormed to a 25-9 victory.

Set three was the opposite for the Senators, who hit a game low .125 in the set as they fell 25-13.

In the fourth set, the teams played another even set, but much like the first set of the game, the Pioneers were able to edge out a 25-23 win to claim the match.

Estes led the team with 13 kills, while Sasha Johnson and Anna Gallup each were in double figures with 11 and 10, respectively.

Johnson also led the team with eight blocks. Senior Devin Saucy recorded five blocks in the match. Saucy also had six assists in the game.

Zoe Craig led the team in assists with 38, while another senior, Michaela Touchet, also had four assists.

Craig and Touchet led the team in digs with 19 and 17, respectively. Senior Kendall Jacobson also was in double figures with 10 digs.

Senior Jessie Kerns had an ace in her final match and fellow senior Lindsey Brittle recorded two digs.

The Senators will now set their sights on the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament next week. By winning the G-MAC Black Division during the regular season, the Senators earn a first round bye in Mason, Ohio and will await an opening round match to find out its semifinal opponent.
