PAINESVILLE, Ohio – Davis & Elkins College Women's Basketball wrapped up its opening weekend with a thrilling win in double overtime to beat Lake Erie College 81-74, sweeping the GLIAC/G-MAC Crossover Challenge.
The Senators Started strong with a 12-point lead after one quarter and held that gap through the remainder of the first half. However, the Storm answered back in the second half to tie the game and take the lead late in the fourth quarter.
Stephanie Wooten then hit one of her many important three pointers in the game to tie it back up at 65 with 16 seconds left.
In the first overtime, Wooten hit another three to give the Senators a 2-point lead with 22 seconds remaining. But, the hosts were able to answer back with a layup in the final seconds to force the second overtime.
Wooten started the second overtime with a three, followed by a layup from
Kali Wilburn to have a 76-74 lead. With 38 seconds remaining, Wooten added her final three of the game to seal the victory, putting the Senators up 80-74 with 38 seconds left.
Wooten led the Senators with 31 points in the game, including eight three pointers. The senior also dished out 10 assists for her second straight double-double. She also had six steals in the game to lead the team.
Sydney Turner joined Wooten in double figures with 15 points. Turner was also second on the team with seven rebounds, five assists and five steals.
Kali Wilburn had 10 rebounds in the game to go along with eight points.
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Monday with the first home game of the season. The Senators will host Washington Adventist in the McDonnell Center with a 7:30 p.m. scheduled tipoff.
