VIENNA, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Senators picked up a 1-0 win at Ohio Valley University on Saturday in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action.
The Senators owned the first 20 minutes of the game, firing four shots at the Fighting Scots goal, while also taking five corners, all before Ohio Valley recorded its first shot of the afternoon.
Following some back and forth play,
Katrina Giantsopoulos gave Davis & Elkins the lead just before the half hour mark.
Tina Wulin sent in a cross to the box and the sophomore forward headed home her eighth goal of the season to put the visitors up at 29:43.
Both team's tested the opposite goalkeepers in the final 15 minutes of the first half, but the Senators went into the break holding a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Giantsopoulos came close to adding to her tally on multiple occasions.
In the 56th minute, after
Lauren Hill made a save in the defensive half for D&E, the Senators went quickly down the field and a minute later, Giantsopoulos hit the post with an effort.
With the ball back in play, Giantsopoulos again hit the post just 14 seconds later.
The Senators would not put another shot on target for the remainder of the contest, but the defense would allow just three more shots from the hosts and none of them would test Hill.
Hill finished the game with two saves leading to her fourth cleansheet of the season.
With the win, the Senators complete a regular season sweep of the Fighting Scots, also defeating Ohio Valley 1-0 last month.
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Thursday, hosting Trevecca Nazarene at Nuttall Field. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
