VIENNA, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Senators fell 0-2 at Ohio Valley University on Saturday in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action.
The Senators struggled early on, with several fouls while the hosts held the majority of the possession.
However, it was
Abel Ameyaw who was the first to test a goalkeeper in the game, forcing Carlos Rubio into a save in the 25th minute.
A few minutes later,
Tim Staerz headed an effort wide of the goal.
Hedi Mehnaoui would then be called into action, recording the first of four straight saves to begin the game with a stop of Celso Riveros' shot in the 29th minute.
Neither team would put another shot on goal of the first half, heading into the break tied at 0.
Mehnaoui was called into action three times early in the second half, making key stops in the first 10 minutes to keep the game scoreless.
However, Ohio Valley broke through in the 72nd minute with Camilo Sarmiento's goal to give the Fighting Scots the lead.
The hosts would double their lead in the 85th minute when a foul on
Ross Stewart gave Ohio Valley a penalty kick opportunity.
Fredy Robayo would convert the penalty for the final major action of the game.
With the loss, the Senators split the regular season series with the Fighting Scots, after defeating Ohio Valley 2-0 last month in the reverse fixture.
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Thursday, hosting Trevecca Nazarene at Nuttall Field. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
