Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Senators fall at Cedarville 1-2

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Davis & Elkins College Women's soccer team fell to Cedarville University 1–2 Thursday night in G-MAC play.

The Senators started the game strong with a pair of corner kicks and the first shot on goal in the game all in the first seven minutes of action. However, it would be the hosts who scored first when the Yellow Jackets were awarded a penalty kick in the 22nd minute.

Creslyn Van Dyck stepped up for Cedarville and scored the penalty, beating Lauren Hill for her second goal of the season.

While both teams would test the keepers in the final 23 minutes of the half, neither team would score and the Senators went into the break trailing 0-1.

D&E would come out strong again in the second half, testing Cedarville's defense several times in the first 16 minutes.

Katrina Giantsopoulos would get the Senators on the scoreboard in the 62nd minute, as she took a pass from Asheli Freed and finished it high into the net to beat Allison Garlock for her seventh goal of the year.

The teams would trade opportunities over the next several minutes, but the Yellow Jackets would capitalize on a corner kick in the 77th minute to retake the lead.

Alyssa Maillefer gave Cedarville a 2-1 lead when she headed home Van Dyck's corner kick from the edge of the 6-yard box.

The Senators would have one more corner kick in the contest, but were unable to generate a shot on goal in the final 13 minutes.

With the loss, the Senators split the regular season series against Cedarville after defeating the Yellow Jackets 3-1 in Elkins last month.

D&E will return to action on Saturday as they travel to Vienna, West Virginia to take on Ohio Valley University in G-MAC play.
