ELKINS - The Davis & Elkins College Women's Soccer team advanced to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference semifinals with a 1–0 victory over Kentucky Weslyan College at Nuttall Field Saturday afternoon.
The Senators outshot the opposition 20-1, but needed a breakthrough late in the second half to secure advancement to Nashville to play Trevecca Nazarene University on Thursday.
Alyssa Jacobs scored the only goal of the contest with just under five minutes remaining in regulation to give the Senators the lead and victory.
After a foul a few yards outside of the penalty area against Kentucky Weslyan, Jacobs stepped up for the free kick and put it around the wall and past Taylor Rentchler, who had stopped the previous eight shots on goal against her from the Senators.
The Senators would allow only one shot by Kentucky Weslyan in the entire game, which
Lauren Hill stopped in the first half to help her to a clean sheet.
D&E will now head to Nashville, Tennessee for the semifinals against the top-seeded Trojans. The Senators split with Trevecca Nazarene in the regular season, with each team winning at home. The game is set for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on Thursday.
