ELKINS – The Senators Volleyball team started strong Tuesday night, but fell to Charleston (WV) 3-1 in non-conference action at the McDonnell Center.
The Senators opened up with a 25-21 win in the first set of the night. D&E hit .281 in the set and fought a couple early runs by the visitors to stay close before pulling ahead late.
After dropping the second set 25-14, D&E appeared to have recovered a bit in a tight set three, hitting .345 for the set. However, the Senators were unable to grab the lead late, tying the match at 21 before allowing four-straight points.
D&E struggled with attacking in the fourth set (.075) and allowed the best attacking percentage of the game to Charleston (.382) as the visitors pulled away to win 25-15 and take the match 3-1.
Sasha Johnson (13) and
Kendall Jacobson (12) led the way in kills for the Senators in the match. Johnson was also a part of all nine blocks on the night for the Senators up front defensively.
Devin Saucy and
Elizabeth Estes each were a part of four blocks in the game.
Jacobson also helped the Senators defensively, recording a team-high 16 digs.
Michaela Touchet was second with 13 digs, while
Zoe Craig finished with eight.
Craig (20) also led in the assist department, while teammate
Anna Gallup was just being her with 19.
The Senators will return to the road this weekend with a pair of G-MAC games on the schedule. D&E plays at Malone on Friday. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
