Senators pick up first G-MAC win at KWC

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Davis & Elkins College Volleyball team picked up an import 3-1 over Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday night in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.
 
The Senators (8-14,1-1 G-MAC) dropped a tight first set 22-25 to Kentucky Wesleyan (8-12, 2-4 G-MAC), but the team recovered to win three-straight sets for the victory.
 
In the second set, Davis & Elkins overcame a 7-14 deficit to win 25-23, tying the match up at 1-1. The Senators would fall behind by as much as four points in the third set, but D&E used runs of seven points in eight and six points in seven to pull ahead and win 25-22 to take a 2-1 lead.
 
With a 2-1 lead, the Senators would clinch the victory in the third set, winning 25-18. Trailing by two points, D&E would win the next eight and 12 of 13 points to take a commanding lead that they were able to hold through to its first conference win of the year.
 
Elizabeth Estes led the way in kills for the Senators with 16. Sasha Johnson also was in double figures with 14 kills. The duo also had three blocks each, behind only Charisse Mitchell, who had four blocks and seven kills in the match.
 
Defensively, Kendall Jacobson led the Senators with 16 digs, while Michaela Touchet finished with 15 digs. Zoe Craig chipped in with eight digs to go along with her 34 assists in the match.
 
The Senators will return to G-MAC play on Saturday. D&E will travel to Nashville to take on Trevecca Nazarene at 1 p.m.
