ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Soccer team fell to Malone University 1-2 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play on Thursday night at Nuttall Field.
 
The Senators fell behind early on as the Pioneers scored in the 12th minute to take the lead. Alex Carcano scored the first goal, beating Lauren Hill from about 12 yards.
 
Davis & Elkins outshot Malone in the first half 8-6, and they also had four corner kicks, but the Senators were only able to put one shot on target.
 
Malone capitalized late in the first half and doubled the lead with a goal in the 40th minute. Christine Najjar took a long pass from the defensive half and beat Hill on a fast break.
 
The Senators would cut one back in the second half by way of a penalty. D&E was awarded the spot kick when Kaitlyn Buoni was brought down in the penalty area.
 
Jessica Woodbyrne would step up for the Senators and she finished the penalty into the corner of the goal to convert in the 62nd minute
 
D&E would have a couple more chances in the game, but were unable to convert.
 
The Senators will wrap up the home schedule for the regular season on Saturday against Ursuline. The game is set for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
