Senators Drop Pair At Crossover Classic

AURORA, Ill. – The Davis & Elkins College Senators Volleyball team dropped both of its matches today in the GLVC/GLIAC/G-MAC Crossover Classic at the Great Lakes Center.
 
In the first session of the day, the Senators fell to the Rangers of Wisconsin-Parkside 0-3.
 
Despite the score, the Senators played very close to the Rangers in the first and third sets, falling 20-25 and 22-25, respectively.
 
However, the Senators had 11 attacking errors in the second set, falling 9-25 in the middle frame.
 
Elizabeth Estes (10), Anna Gallup (9) and Sasha Johnson (7) led the way in kills for ­­the match.
 
Defensively, Zoe Craig led the Senators with 11 digs. Kelly Smith and Michaela Touchet had seven and six digs, respectively.
 
Craig had 23 assists in the match and Devin Saucy also picked up seven assists.
 
In match two of the day, the Senators found themselves in a back-and-forth battle with Maryville (MO), going the full five sets in a 18-25, 30-28, 21-25, 25-21, 5-15 defeat.
 
In a very even match throughout, the big difference came down to the fifth set when the Senators had five attacking errors while the Saints had the best attacking set of the match at .467.
 
Estes and Johnson tied for the team lead in kills with 14. Saucy also had 12 kills and was a key part at the net with a team-high four blocks.
 
Craig had 51 assists, while Touchet (19), Smith (16) and Kendall Jacobson (12) led the way for the Senators in digs.
 
Davis & Elkins will return to action tomorrow with its final match of the crossover. The Senators will face Saint Joseph's College (IN) at 1 p.m.
