Jason Asbell

Jason Asbell is in his 12th season at the helm of the women’s basketball program in 2019-20. 

Asbell has led the Senators to five seasons of .500 or better, including a 19-win season in 2016-17, tied for the second most wins in program history.

He is also Davis & Elkins’ all-time leader in NCAA basketball wins (131) and is second behind only the legendary Nancy McFarlane in program wins (165).

Asbell has coached five first-team All-Conference recipients and 14 All-Conference athletes overall during his previous nine seasons in Elkins.

Under his tutelage, Asbell has also coached two Freshmen of the Year winners and four All-Freshmen team award recipients.

During his time in Elkins, Asbell has guided the all-time leader in scoring at Davis & Elkins College and in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference with Stephanie Wooten scoring 1,800 points during her time with the Senators.

He coached Aliyah Dukes to first-team All-Conference honors in 2017-18. During the campaign, Dukes set a school records for points in a game with 43 and a conference record for three pointers in a game with 11.

Before arriving at Davis & Elkins, Asbell spent two seasons under the tutelage of West Liberty University legend Lynn Ullom and was instrumental in the recruitment of WL’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder Tori Hansen.  

Prior to West Liberty, Asbell coached at Jamestown High School where he won the 2006 State Championship.

He attended the University of Miami before transferring to Thomas Edison University to complete his bachelor’s degree. He earned a master’s degree in sport leadership from Duquesne.
