Box Score ELKINS, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins fell to Tiffin, 18-10, on Senior Day in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference men's lacrosse matchup Saturday afternoon at Nuttall Field.
Prior to the contest, the Senators honored six seniors for their contributions to the program: Charlie Taylor, James Beston, Xzavier Jankowiak, Justin Kearney, Devon Garcia and Jordan Delorme.
Tiffin jumped out early, scoring the first two goals before Davis & Elkins responded with an unassisted strike from Garcia at the 10:27 mark of the opening quarter. Jankowiak and Collin Flannery each added first-period goals for the Senators, but the Dragons closed the frame with three straight to take a 7-3 lead after one.
The Senators cut into the deficit in the second quarter as Taylor netted an unassisted goal and Jankowiak added another late in the half. Despite the push, Tiffin held a 9-5 advantage heading into halftime.
Davis & Elkins made its strongest run in the third quarter. Jankowiak scored just 34 seconds into the period before JayC Morlog followed with an unassisted goal to bring the Senators within two at 9-7. Garcia later found the net off an assist from Nate Duffy to trim the deficit to 9-8 with 7:08 remaining in the quarter.
The Dragons answered with three consecutive goals to regain control and carried a 12-8 lead into the fourth.
Tiffin pulled away in the final period with four straight goals before Davis & Elkins responded with scores from Jankowiak and Karsen Kronen. The Dragons added two late tallies to secure the 18-10 victory.
Jankowiak led the Senators offensively with four goals and one assist. Garcia finished with two goals and an assist, while Flannery, Taylor, Morlog and Kronen each added a goal.
Avery Linthicum made 13 saves in 54 minutes in goal for Davis & Elkins, while Jacob Orr saw the final 5:50 of action.
Aaron Cotter paced Tiffin with six goals and one assist, while Connor Gucwa recorded six points on a goal and five assists.
Tiffin finished with a 43-37 edge in shots and a 39-20 advantage in ground balls.
Davis & Elkins returns to action Tuesday, March 24, traveling to face Seton Hill in a G-MAC contest at 2 p.m. in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
