Matthew Danner Elevated to Head Wrestling Coach at Davis & Elkins

ELKINS, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins College has announced the promotion of Matthew Danner to head coach of the Senators wrestling program following one season as the team's assistant coach.

"Matthew has been a great addition to our wrestling program," said Director of Athletics Dr. Jennifer Riggleman. "We're excited to elevate him to head coach and look forward to the continued growth of the program under his leadership."

Danner joined the program ahead of the 2025–26 season and quickly made an impact on and off the mat, assisting with daily training, recruiting efforts and the development of the Senators' roster throughout the year.

A veteran of the United States Marine Corps and former NCAA Division II wrestler, Danner brings more than 18 years of competitive wrestling experience and a strong background in leadership and athlete development to the head coaching role.

Danner competed collegiately at King University from 2017 to 2021, where he held a spot in the starting lineup all four years. During his freshman season, he was named the 2017 King University Freshman of the Year and captured the King University Open Wrestling Tournament title.

Prior to his collegiate career, Danner was a PIAA AAA state qualifier and compiled 117 career wins in high school. He was also a three-time district qualifier and three-time all-conference selection.

In addition to his competitive accomplishments, Danner has coached at wrestling camps, clinics and practices for more than a decade, working with athletes from elementary through high school levels in Pennsylvania and Tennessee.

Following his collegiate career, Danner served as an infantryman in the Marine Corps, where he led Marines in high-pressure environments while maintaining accountability for personnel and equipment and completing multiple leadership and specialized weapons training programs.

Danner studied social science with a concentration in criminal justice at King University.
