Matthew Danner

Davis & Elkins College announced the hiring of Matthew Danner as assistant coach for the men’s wrestling program in August 2025.

A veteran of the United States Marine Corps and former NCAA Division II wrestler, Danner brings more than 18 years of competitive wrestling experience and a strong background in leadership to the Senators.

Danner wrestled at King University from 2017 to 2021, starting all four years in the lineup. He was named the 2017 King University Freshman of the Year and won the King University Open Wrestling Tournament the same season. A PIAA AAA state qualifier with 117 career victories in high school, he also earned three all-conference honors and qualified for the district tournament three times.

In addition to his competitive career, Danner has coached at wrestling camps, clinics and practices for more than a decade, working with athletes from the elementary through high school levels in Pennsylvania and Tennessee.

After college, Danner served as an infantryman in the Marine Corps, where he led Marines in high-pressure environments, managed personnel and equipment, and completed multiple leadership and specialized weapons training programs.

He graduated from King University in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in social science with a concentration in criminal justice.
