Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins women's soccer team dropped its Mountain East Conference opener Sunday afternoon, falling 2-0 to Charleston at Welch Athletic Complex.
After a scoreless first half, the Golden Eagles broke through with goals in the 61st and 65th minutes. Jamie Bland converted the opener off an assist from Ciara Casamento, while Mya Mills doubled the lead just four minutes later on a setup from Bland.
The Senators created chances of their own, firing 14 shots with five on target, but Charleston goalkeeper Sofia Chaverra turned aside each effort to record the shutout. Midfielder Catalina Salas led D&E with three attempts, including one on frame, while Frederique Morin, Brenda Castro, Kristia Kouppi, and Hanna Christina Tomas also tested the Golden Eagles keeper.
Goalkeeper Gabriela Acevedo tallied five saves across 90 minutes for the Senators.
With the loss, Davis & Elkins moves to 0-2-1 overall and 0-1-0 in MEC play, while Charleston improves to 1-2-0 (1-0-0 MEC).
