ELKINS, W.Va. — In front of a lively Code Red crowd on Wednesday afternoon, the Davis & Elkins College women's lacrosse team put forth a spirited effort but ultimately fell to visiting Wheeling University, 19-7, at Nuttall Field.
The game marked a special occasion as the program welcomed a strong turnout of fans dressed in red, creating an energized atmosphere that matched the Senators' competitive fire. Despite the early momentum favoring Wheeling, who jumped out to a 9-0 first-quarter lead, D&E responded with heart and hustle.
The Senators' offense ignited in the second quarter with a four-goal burst, highlighted by a pair of tallies from Izzie Sevila and individual scores from Ari Hinton and Ke'ya Stevens—who netted a shorthanded goal. Sevila would go on to complete a hat trick with her third goal early in the fourth quarter.
Stevens added another goal in the final period, and Morgan Rogers joined the scoresheet to round out the Senators' attack. Hinton also dished out an assist and tallied a goal herself, contributing on both ends.
Goalie Megan Bauer made 19 saves before Daelyn Hardnack stepped in for relief duties in the final quarter, adding two more saves of her own.
Despite the loss, the Senators showed resilience, forcing turnovers, winning ground balls, and feeding off the energy of the fans.
