Game 1: Gannon 12, Davis & Elkins 1 (5 innings)
VIERA, Fla. – The Davis & Elkins softball team concluded its trip to the Space Coast Spring Games on Wednesday, falling to Gannon 12-1 in five innings in a game that included a two-hour weather delay due to thunderstorms before the top of the fifth inning.
Gannon (6-1) set the tone early, scoring two runs in the first inning before adding three in the second. The Golden Knights broke the game open with a seven-run third inning, capitalizing on timely hitting and D&E miscues.
The Senators (4-15) struggled offensively against Gannon pitcher Armstrong (5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 6 K), mustering just three hits. After the weather delay, their lone run came in the bottom of the fifth when Linzey Allard (1-for-3, 2B, R) led off with a double to left-center. Gweny Wessling (1-for-2) followed with a single to put runners on the corners, and Jules Gutierrez (0-for-2) grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing Allard to score.
D&E pitcher Dawn Morris (0-3) (1.1 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 0 K) took the loss in the circle.
The Senators held Gannon scoreless over the final two innings, with Saylor Kneeland (3.2 IP, 5 H, 7 R, 3 BB, 4 K) delivering a strong relief outing.
Game 2: Saginaw Valley State 4, Davis & Elkins 3
The Senators battled in their final game of the tournament, but a late rally by Saginaw Valley State resulted in a 4-3 walk-off loss for D&E.
Davis & Elkins (4-16) took an early lead in the top of the second when Alyssa Haynes (2-for-3, 2 R) singled and later scored on a clutch RBI double by April Belcher (1-for-3, 2B, RBI).
The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth, when SVSU (9-3) broke through with a two-run inning on a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly.
D&E answered back in the sixth, as Haynes reached on an infield single, stole second, and came around to score on a groundout by Lina Gutierrez (1-for-4, RBI).
Saginaw Valley reclaimed the lead with a run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Senators weren't finished. In the top of the seventh, Trinity Fleming (1-for-3) led off with a single and later scored on an RBI groundout by Jules Gutierrez, tying the game at 3-3.
However, the Cardinals responded in the bottom of the seventh, taking advantage of a leadoff single, a controversial overturned call at second base, and a stolen base before a two-out RBI single sealed the 4-3 walk-off victory.
D&E starter Alyssia Munoz (0-5) (4.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K) had a solid outing despite the loss, while Sammie Jarvis (3 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K) pitched well in relief.
