ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins baseball team fell behind early and couldn't recover, dropping the opener of a Mountain East Conference doubleheader 8-1 to Frostburg State on Saturday morning at Harpertown Field.
The Bobcats (17-7, 8-3 MEC) scored five runs in the first two innings and added three more in the final two frames to pull away from the Senators (3-21, 2-7 MEC). Despite a seven-hit day at the plate, D&E managed just one run, coming in the bottom of the seventh.
Senior Larry Kusan led the Senators offensively, finishing 2-for-4 with a triple. Sophomore Zach Calef-Boring also recorded two hits, while Diego Reyes reached base twice and scored the lone run. Cort Kegley, Joseph De La Nuez, and Jett Walters each added a hit.
On the mound, Isaac Lane (0-7) took the loss, allowing six earned runs on nine hits and three walks over five innings. The D&E bullpen allowed two runs over the final two frames, while the Senators' defense played error-free behind a six-assist effort.

The Senators will look to bounce back in Game 2 of the twinbill, orginally scheduled for Sunday afternoon but postponed due to rain. The game will now be played on Tuesday, April 1 at the March-Westin Complex at Mylan Park in Morgantown, W. Va. at 1:00 p.m.
