PHILIPPI, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins College women's lacrosse fell to the University of Charleston, 18-5, on Wednesday afternoon at the Multi-sport Performance Stadium.
The Senators (3-6, 0-1 MEC) were led by Ari Hinton, who scored twice, while Rylee Anderson, Emelia Johnson, and Izzie Sevila each added a goal. Mackenzie Mullan contributed an assist in the effort.
D&E opened the scoring late in the first quarter when Hinton found the back of the net with 51 seconds remaining. Sevila struck early in the second period, converting on an assist from Mullan to cut into Charleston's early lead. Anderson and Hinton each added goals in the third quarter, with Johnson capping the scoring for the Senators in the final minute of the period.
The Golden Eagles (7-1, 1-0 MEC) controlled possession and outshot D&E 38-20. The Senators had strong performances from goalkeepers Megan Bauer and Daelyn Hardnack, who combined for 12 saves in the contest. Bauer played 55:58 in goal, recording 11 saves, while Hardnack added a save in just over four minutes of action.
Defensively, Zoe Mackey led the Senators with seven draw controls and four caused turnovers, while Anderson added two caused turnovers and four ground balls. Sierra Walesheck contributed with four ground balls and two draw controls.
