FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins College softball suffered a pair of losses against Fairmont State in a Mountain East Conference (MEC) doubleheader on Monday afternoon at Duvall-Rosier Field.
In the opener, the Senators (6-19, 1-3 MEC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but the Fighting Falcons responded with seven unanswered runs in the sixth inning to take a 7-4 victory. Linzey Allard led the way for D&E, going 3-for-4 with an RBI double, while Jules Gutierrez added a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Saylor Kneeland pitched a complete game, allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits while striking out three.
Game two saw Fairmont State (8-8, 2-0 MEC) dominate offensively, cruising to a 13-1 win in five innings. The Falcons erupted for a nine-run fourth inning, putting the game out of reach. Lorena Ruiz-Rubio provided the lone highlight for the Senators, blasting a solo home run in the fifth for the team's only run, the first of her career. Sammie Jarvis took the loss, surrendering three earned runs in the first inning before D&E turned to the bullpen.
