Baseball Earns First Win of the Season in Weekend Series at King University

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Davis & Elkins College baseball team capped off its weekend series at King University with a commanding 13-9 victory in Game 3, marking its first win of the season.

The Senators opened the series on Friday, Feb. 7, with a 10-3 loss to the Tornado. Despite an 11-hit effort, D&E struggled to string together timely hits, plating only three runs. The Senators' pitching staff surrendered 10 runs on 13 hits, while striking out three. Offensively, Grant Mealey and Mason Brenneman each tallied two hits, with Mealey also scoring a run.

In the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, D&E mounted a late comeback attempt but ultimately fell short, losing 10-5. The Senators trailed 10-1 entering the seventh inning but rallied for four runs in the final frame, showing resilience at the plate. Larry Kusan was a bright spot, scoring two runs while reaching base twice via walk. Logan Bradish provided an RBI double, and Mealey drew a bases-loaded walk to contribute to the late surge.

D&E turned the tide in the series finale, exploding for 13 runs on 13 hits to secure a 13-9 victory. The Senators did most of their damage in the middle innings, scoring four runs in the third, six in the fourth, and three more in the fifth to take control. Brenneman had a standout performance, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Xavier Perry added two hits and two RBIs. The Senators' pitching staff held on late, sealing the team's first win of the season.
