Men's Basketball Falls To No. 11 West Liberty

ELKINS, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins College put up a strong fight but fell short against nationally ranked No. 11 West Liberty University, 78-66, in a Mountain East Conference contest Wednesday night at the McDonnell Center.

The Senators (9-12, 5-8 MEC) struggled in the first half, trailing 36-26 at the break. Despite an improved offensive performance in the second half, they were unable to overcome turnovers and West Liberty's efficient attack.

Ben Gilliam led the way for the Senators, recording a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds while adding three assists. Nicolas Silva and Charleston Ponds each contributed 10 points, with Silva also grabbing five rebounds. Emmanuel Oladeru and Kerem Sariaslan chipped in 10 points apiece off the bench, helping the Senators tally 36 bench points.

D&E controlled the paint, outscoring West Liberty 42-32 inside, but turnovers proved costly as the Senators gave up 20, leading to 19 points for the Hilltoppers. The Senators also struggled at the free-throw line, converting just 4-of-10 attempts.

West Liberty (18-3, 12-2 MEC) capitalized on D&E's mistakes and used a balanced offensive attack to pull away in the second half, securing the road win.
