ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins College men's basketball team battled throughout but was unable to keep pace late, falling 75-62 to the University of Charleston in a Mountain East Conference contest Saturday evening at the McDonnell Center.
D&E (9-17, 5-13 MEC) trailed 35-29 at halftime but remained within striking distance for much of the second half before Charleston (16-9, 12-6 MEC) pulled away in the final minutes.
Nicolas Silva led the Senators with a double-double, tallying 13 points and 10 rebounds while adding two assists. Kerem Sariaslan paced the team from beyond the arc, knocking down four three-pointers en route to a 12-point effort. Ja'Kobe Strozier and Emmanuel Oladeru added eight points apiece, with Strozier also contributing a block and a steal.
The Senators struggled to convert in the paint, posting 22 points inside compared to Charleston's 26. D&E also committed 16 personal fouls, leading to 17 free-throw attempts for the Golden Eagles.
