ELKINS, W.Va. — On a dreary day with steady rainfall, the Davis & Elkins men's lacrosse team fell to Holy Family, 16-9, in their home opener on Saturday at Nuttall Field.
The Senators (1-3) came out strong, scoring three goals in the first quarter, but Holy Family (1-0) responded with six goals in the second to take control. D&E was unable to close the gap in the second half as Holy Family maintained its offensive pressure.
Tanner Delorme led the Senators with four goals and an assist, while Chuck Kretchman added two goals and an assist. Xzavier Jankowiak, JayC Morlog, and Justin Kearney each contributed a goal.
Davis & Elkins goaltender Avery Linthicum recorded 27 saves on 56 shots faced. Holy Family outshot the Senators 56-33 and held a 16-11 advantage in faceoffs.
The Tigers capitalized on two power-play opportunities and forced 22 turnovers by the Senators.
