LOCK HAVEN, Pa. The Davis & Elkins women's cross country team captured its second consecutive NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Championship on Saturday, while the men's team finished third to qualify for the national meet for the second year in a row. Both teams earned automatic bids to the NCAA Division II National Championship, which will take place Saturday, Nov. 22 in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
The women claimed the regional title with 58 points, placing all five scorers inside the top 25 in a field of 23 teams. Senior Lauren Twyman led the way in fourth place with a time of 21:29.2, followed by Savanna Hardman in sixth (21:36.9), Rebecca Tellez in seventh (21:40.4), Lydia Falkenstein in 16th (21:59.2), and Jeanne Pelissier in 25th (22:06.6). The Senators posted a team total time of 1:48:52 and an average of 21:46, finishing ahead of East Stroudsburg (113 points) and Edinboro (127 points).
Twyman, Hardman, Tellez, Falkenstein, and Pelissier were each named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region Team.
The Davis & Elkins men also earned a return trip to nationals with a third-place finish in the 10K race. The Senators totaled 100 points, led by Jordan Thomas in 11th place (31:11.7), followed by Konnor Allison in 18th (31:31.9), Christopher Lucas in 19th (31:32.8), Cooper Gibson in 23rd (31:50.5), and Fletcher Van Heuven in 30th (32:02.9). The top five runners finished with a combined time of 2:38:09 and an average of 31:37.
Thomas, Allison, Lucas, and Gibson each earned All-Region honors for finishing inside the top 25.
The Senators were one of three programs in the Atlantic Region to qualify both men's and women's teams for the NCAA Division II National Championship, joining Charleston (W.Va.) and Shippensburg.
Both D&E squads will now prepare for nationals on Nov. 22 in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
