GLENVILLE, W. Va. — The Davis & Elkins College men's basketball team came up short in a hard-fought contest against Glenville State (9-4, 4-2 MEC), falling 72-65 at the Waco Center on Wednesday night in Mountain East Conference play.
Senior Charleston Ponds led the Senators with a team-high 17 points, shooting an efficient 5-of-6 from the field, including a perfect 4-of-4 from beyond the arc. He also added 3 rebounds and 2 assists in 26 minutes of play. Sophomore Dontrell Jenkins contributed 14 points, 4 rebounds, and a team-best 4 assists while hitting 3 of his 8 three-point attempts.
Sophomore Ja'Kobe Strozier was active on both ends of the court, scoring 12 points while grabbing 6 rebounds and blocking a shot. Senior Ben Gilliam controlled the boards with a team-high 8 rebounds, adding 7 points and a block.
In a game that saw 12 lead changes, the Senators shot a solid 42.3% from the field and connected on 8 three-pointers. However, 17 turnovers and a 72.2% mark from the free-throw line (13-of-18) hampered their efforts. Defensively, D&E tallied 6 steals and 3 blocks.
With the loss, the team falls to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in MEC play.
