ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins men's soccer team fell 3-2 in a hard-fought match against Frostburg State (4-1-0, 2-1-0 MEC) on Sunday afternoon at Nuttall Field.
The Senators got off to a strong start when Modou Faye found the back of the net in the sixth minute, assisted by Johan Magaña, to give D&E an early lead. However, Frostburg responded with two first-half goals, including one in the 19th minute and another just before halftime, putting the Bobcats up 2-1 at the break.
D&E fought back in the second half, with Magaña scoring in the 56th minute, leveling the score at 2-2 after a brilliant setup from Faye. The Senators continued to pressure Frostburg, creating several corner kicks and outshooting their opponent 11-3 in the second half. Battling throughout, D&E earned a season-high 13 corner kicks and fired 12 total shots, 4 on goal
Despite the surge in momentum, Frostburg's Mason Salvadge netted the game-winner in the 65th minute. The Senators pushed for an equalizer, but Frostburg's defense held strong to secure the win.
Goalkeeper Dante Ordenes made three saves for the Senators.
With the loss, the Senators move to 3-2-1 and 1-2-1 MEC.
