Charleston, W.Va. -- The Senators picked up two crucial wins against West Virginia State on Saturday before falling to Charleston on Sunday. The results for the weekend put the Senators in a tie for 3rd place in the MEC South Division with four games remaining in the conference play.
Game 1 vs West Virginia State 5-4 Win (extra innings)
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings. The Senators offense got going in the third inning when
Lilly Saucedo singled in a run to make the score 2-1. The Yellow Jackets would add another run in the third inning to increase their lead to 3-1.
The Senators would tie the game in the fifth inning scoring two runs to make the score 3-3.
Linzey Allard drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Saucedo drove in another run with a single.
The game would go into extra innings tied at 3-3. The Senators would score two runs in the eighth inning when Allard singled in a run and
Maddie Lavelle was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Yellow Jackets scored a run in the bottom of the eighth and would get the tying run on base but the Senators were able to get out of the jam.
Sharon Morales, Trinity Cossett, Allard and Saucedo each collected two hits in the game.
Vanessa Hunt picked up her eighth win of the season throwing a completed game and striking out four hitters.
Game 2 vs West Virginia State 3-2 Win (extra innings)
Neither team could get much going in game two until the sixth inning. The Senators would get on the board first with a
Lilly Saucedo RBI single and they would add another run on an error. The Yellow Jackets would score two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings.
The Senators would score a run in the top of the ninth inning on a wild pitch to take a 3-2 lead. The Yellow Jackets would once again get the tying run on base but weren't able to complete the comeback.
Sharon Morales led the Senator offense going 3 for 5 with a run scored and two stolen bases.
Sammie Jarvis picked up her 14th win of the season throwing a complete game while allowing zero earned runs and striking out five hitters.
Game 1 vs Charleston 8-0 Loss
The Senator offense wasn't able to get anything going on as they were held to two hits in the game. The Golden Eagles scored five runs in the second inning, two in the fourth inning and added their final run in the fifth inning to get the victory.
Linzey Allard and
Trinity Fleming each collected a hit for the Senators.
Game 2 vs Charleston 10-0 Loss
Game two of the doubleheader was much the same for the Senators. The Golden Eagles erupted for ten runs in the third inning to put the game out of reach.
