Softball Sweeps Bluefield State

Bluefield, Va. -- After having several games canceled the Senators were finally able to return to the field and took little time getting the offense going in a sweep over Bluefield State University.

Game 1 vs Bluefield State 11-3 Win
The Senators jump ahead early behind 6 runs in the top of the first inning. Trinity Cossette supplied a 2 RBI double in the inning.

Linzey Allard would hit a homerun in the second inning to push the lead to 7-0. Alyssa Haynes would add an RBI double in the 3rd inning to make the score 8-1

Bluefield State would add 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd before Jules Gutierrez homered in the 4th inning. Allison Cuellar would add an RBI double in the inning and the Senators would cruise to a 5-inning victory.

Allard was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.

Cossette was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI on the day.

Vanessa Hunt picked up her fourth win of the season going 5 innings while striking out 6 batters.

Game 2 vs Bluefield State 11-1 Win
The second game of the day was much more competitive through 4 innings as the Senators held a 2-1 lead going into the 5th inning. The Senator offense exploded for 4 runs in the 5th inning and 5 runs in the 6th inning.

Sammie Jarvis did a little bit of everything for the Senators in game two. At the plate she was 3 for 4 with a double, homerun, 2 runs scored and 4 RBI. She also picked up her 5th win of the season in the circle going 5 innings while striking out 12 and only allowing 3 hits and 1 earned run.

Alyssa Haynes was 1 for 2 with a homerun 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.

Lilly Saucedo went 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored and a RBI.

Jules Gutierrez and Trinity Cossette each added multi-hit games for the Senators.

The Senators travel to Winston-Salem State University on Wednesday, March 13th for a doubleheader starting at 12pm.
