Softball Picks Up Road Sweep Over Winston-Salem

Winston-Salem, N.C. -- The Senators picked up two more victories on the season with a midweek sweep of Winston-Salem. Jules Gutierrez led the Senators offense going 5-7 on the day with a 3 doubles, a homerun, 4 runs scored and 2 RBI.

Game 1 vs Winston-Salem 6-1 Win
The Senators jumped out early in game one and never looked back. Jules Gutierrez collected an RBI single in the top of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.

The Senators would add 2 runs in the top of the third inning thanks to an error that allowed an unearned run to score. Lilly Saucedo would drive in the second unearned run with an RBI single.

Linzey Allard would hit a two-run homerun in the fifth inning and Gutierrez would add a solo homerun in the seventh inning to put the game out of reach.

Gutierrez was 3 for 4 with a double, homerun, a run scored and 2 RBI.

Saucedo was 2 for 4 with a double, a run scored and a RBI.

Saylor Kneeland picked up the win going 7 innings while only allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run. She struck out 16 of the 25 batters she faced in the game.

Game 2 vs Winston-Salem 9-2 Win
The Senator bats stayed hot to start game two of the doubleheader by putting up 5 runs in the first inning. Linzey Allard tripled to right field to drive in the first run of the game. Lilly Saucedo followed with an RBI double and Trinity Fleming would cap off the scoring with a three-run homerun.

The Senators would add 3 more runs in the third inning to extend the lead to 8-0. Ashlyn Zapach would get the scoring started with an RBI single. After the Senators would add a run on a wild pitch, they would successfully execute a double steal with Sharon Morales stealing second and Zapach stealing home.

Fleming would add her fourth RBI of the day with a single in the fourth inning to make the lead 9-0.

Zapach went 3 for 3 in the game with a run scored and a RBI.

Fleming was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 4 RBI.

Jules Gutierrez was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and 3 runs scored.

Sammie Jarvis picked up her sixth win of the season going 7 innings while only allowing 3 hits, 2 earned runs and struck out 9 hitters.

The Senators return to action on Saturday, March 16th when the open up MEC play at home against Frostburg State University at 12pm.
