Fairmont, W.Va. -- Field conditions caused softball to move their home games to Morgantown and Fairmont over the weekend. The Senators dropped a doubleheader with Frostburg State in Morgantown on Saturday by scores of 7-4 and 7-6. On Sunday, the Senators were the home team despite playing the games at Fairmont State and split a pair of extra inning games by winning the first game 7-6 and falling in game two 8-5.
Game 1 vs Frostburg State 7-4 Loss
The Bobcats jumped out early in game one and tooka 7-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning. The Senators would mount a comeback by scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 7-4.
Jules Gutierrez had an RBI single and
Ashlyn Zapach added a 3-run homerun in the inning. The Senators would bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh but weren't able to complete the comeback.
Alyssa Haynes and
Linzey Allard each collected multi-hit games.
Game 2 vs Frostburg State 7-6 loss
The Bobcats struck first again taking a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the first inning. The Senators would respond in the bottom of the first when
Linzey Allard had a RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1.
The score would remain the same until
Mia Ely drove in a run in the bottom of the 4th inning to tie the game at 2-2. The Senators would take the lead in the bottom of the 5th after Allard walked with the bases load and
Jules Gutierrez recorded a sacrifice fly to make the score 4-3.
The Bobcats answered back with 2 runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take a 7-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh. The Senators would mount a comeback with Allard hitting an RBI double which was followed by an RBI double by
Lilly Saucedo to make the score 7-6. The Senators would get the tying run to third base and the winning run at first but the Bobcats were able to close out the game.
Allard went 2 for 3 with a run scored and 3 RBI.
Alyssa Haynes went 2 for 4 with a run scored.
Game 1 vs Fairmont State 7-6 Win
The Senators jumped out early scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning behind a 2-run homerun by
Alyssa Haynes. Haynes would drive in two more runs in the bottom of the second to take a 4-0 lead.Â
The Falcons would get their offense going scoring three runs in the fourth, a run in the fifth and 2 runs in the sixth inning to take a 6-5 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Senators would tie the game at 7-7 when
Linzey Allard singled home a run. The Senators would get the winning run to third base with no outs but the Falcons were able to get back-to-back strikeouts before a groundout to end the inning and send the game to extra innings.
The Falcons were unable to score in the top of the eighth inning so the game remained 7-7. Haynes would drive in her 5th run of the game in the bottom of the eighth to give the Senators a walk-off win.
Haynes was 3 for 5 with a run scored, a homerun and 5 RBI.
Sharon Morales was 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored, and 4 stolen bases.
Allard and
Trinity Fleming each had multi-hit games.
Vanessa Hunt picked up the win in relief going 2 2/3 innings only allowing 4 hits and no earned runs.
Game 2 vs Fairmont State 8-5 Loss
The Senators jumped out to an early lead but a late comeback by the Falcons would be too much. The Senators would score two unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Sharon Morales would hit a homerun in the bottom of the second to take a 3-1 lead. The Senators would add another unearned run in the bottom of the third inning and
Alyssa Haynes would hit a RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 5-1 lead.
The Falcons would score a run in the fifth inning and then score three runs in the sixth inning to tie the game 5-5. The score would remain the same until the Falcons scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to pull out the extra inning win.
Haynes was 2 for 5 with a run scored and an RBI.
Morales and
Linzey Allard each scored 2 runs for the Senators.
