Baseball Drops Two Tough Games to Fairmont

Morgantown, W.Va. -- The Senators dropped two tough games to Fairmont State by scores of 11-6 and 8-2. Jett Walters led the Senators offensively going 3 for 5 on the day with a double and 2 RBI.

Game 1 vs Fairmont State 11-6 Loss
The Falcons jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after one inning but the Senators would respond with two runs in the second inning. Zach Owens reached on an error that allowed a run to score and then Jett Walters drove in a run with a RBI single to make the score 3-2.

The Falcons would add a run in the bottom of the second inning and three runs in the third inning to increase their lead to 7-2. The Senators exploded for four runs in the top of the fourth inning to make the score 7-6. Mason Brenneman singled in a run, Logan Bradish picked up an RBI with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and Cort Kegley singled in two runs.

The Senators would get two quick outs before an error would extend the bottom of the fourth inning and the Falcons would later capitalize with a 3-run homerun to take a 10-6 lead. The Senators would threaten in the top of the fifth inning by getting the first two batters on but the inning would end on a strikeout and double-play to end the threat.

Kegley was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.

Aydin Zimmerman was 2 for 4 with a run scored.

Game 2 vs Fairmont State 8-2 Loss
The final score wasn't indicative to the type of game that was played in game two. The starting pitchers were locked in a pitcher's dual until the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Falcons got the scoring started in the fourth inning when they hit a solo homerun. The Senators would follow by scoring two runs in the fifth inning without recording a hit. Marcus Rivera led the inning off with a walk. Connor Hyde followed with a sacrifice bunt that included an error that allowed Rivera to advance to third and Hyde to advance to second. Jett Walters grounded out to second base that scored Rivera and moved Hyde to third base. Fletcher Hindman would drive Hyde in with a successful suicide squeeze to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Senators.

The Falcons would add a two-out RBI in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game a 2-2. The Senators would go scoreless in the top of the sixth and would record the first two outs of the bottom of the sixth on two pitches. Unfortunately, the Falcons offense would get hot and recorded six straight hits capped by a 3-run homerun to take an 8-2 lead into the seventh inning.

Logan Bradish, Walters and Hindman each recorded a hit for the Senators.
