Elkins, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins mounted a fourth quarter comeback but it wasn't enough as Wheeling University pulled out the 62-55 victory in the McDonnell Center.
Taylor Smith led the Senators with 17 points and 5 rebounds.
The first quarter saw a defensive battle between both teams with the score tied up 11-11 after one. The Senators would shoot 5-9 (55.56%) in the second quarter but the Cardinals were able to end the half on a 6-0 run to take a 29-23 lead into halftime.
The third quarter would see the Cardinals push their lead to 14 points after three behind a strong effort on both ends of the floor by holding the Senators to 3-14 (21.43%) shooting from the field. Davis & Elkins would mount a comeback in the fourth quarter behind strong defense holding the Cardinals to 4-12 (33.33%). The Senators would cut the lead to 54-53 with 2:07 remaining but the Cardinals would end the game on an 8-2 run to put the game away.
Jaela Reid would have a solid game with 15 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals for the Senators.
