Men's Soccer Falls On The Road To No. 3 UC 3-2

CHARLESTON, W. Va. -- The Davis & Elkins College men's soccer team fell 3-2 to No. 3 University of Charleston in a hard-fought Mountain East Conference match on Sunday night at Welch Athletic Complex.

Charleston took control early, with Jack Allan opening the scoring in the 15th minute. The Golden Eagles continued their strong play, adding two more goals before halftime, including a strike from Tomas Petrungaro and another from Eduardo Rodrigues, pushing Charleston's lead to 3-0.

D&E got on the scoreboard in the 43rd minute when a defensive miscue by the Golden Eagles led to an own-goal. An errant pass back to the Charleston goalkeeper was mishandled, resulting in the ball rolling into the low corner of the net to bring the Senators within 3-1 just before the halftime whistle.

In the second half, the Senators continued to press. Senior Johan Magaña found the back of the net for the seventh time this season in the 67th minute to close the gap to 3-2, with Hugo Fauli providing the assist. Despite several chances to level the match, the Senators were unable to break through Charleston's defense in the final minutes.

Davis & Elkins outshot Charleston 5-4 in the second half but ultimately could not overcome the first-half deficit. Goalkeeper Dante Ordenes made three saves for the Senators, while Charleston's Nicolai Gundersen stopped three shots to secure the victory.

With the loss, Davis & Elkins falls to 6-4-3 (4-4-2 MEC), while Charleston remains unbeaten, leading the MEC with a 12-0-1 (9-0-0 MEC) overall record.
